To maintain PR status, individuals are required to be physically present in Canada for at least 730 days within a five year period or fall under one of several exceptions.

International Mobility Program
The International Mobility Program (IMP) makes it easier for employers to hire temporary foreign workers without needing a Labour Market Impact Assessment (LMIA). This program helps when the job offers significant benefits to Canada, such as boosting the economy, enhancing cultural diversity, or fulfilling reciprocal agreements with other countries.
Through the IMP, Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC) has set specific policies to determine when LMIA exemptions apply. These exemptions cover various categories, ensuring the hiring process is straightforward and efficient. The IMP allows employers to quickly bring in global talent to fill crucial roles, driving growth and innovation in Canada.
Significant Benefit Work Permits (C-10)
The C-10 “significant benefit” work permit allows employers to hire temporary workers without requiring an LMIA if the employment offers economic, cultural, or competitive advantages for Canada, or reciprocal benefits for Canadians. This permit is particularly useful for facilitating the hiring of individuals who can provide substantial contributions in their field, thereby benefiting the Canadian economy or society.
To qualify, the application must include an LMIA-exempt job offer, proof of employer compliance fee payment, and evidence demonstrating the foreign national’s significant economic, social, or cultural benefit. By bypassing the LMIA requirement, the C-10 permit streamlines the process, making it easier for employers to attract and retain exceptional talent from around the world.
Entrepreneurs or Self-Employed Individuals (C-11)
The C-11 work permit allows self-employed or entrepreneurial foreign nationals to enter Canada to run a business that provides significant benefits. Applicants must show their work is temporary, they plan to leave Canada within a specified period, and their business will offer economic, social, or cultural benefits or opportunities for Canadians.
Required documents include an LMIA-exempt job offer, proof of employer compliance fee payment, a work permit application, evidence of business ownership, proof of benefits created by the business, indication of a temporary stay, and letters of support from relevant organizations.

Eligible transferees must be employed by a multinational company and seek to work in a parent, subsidiary, branch, or affiliate in Canada.
They must transfer to an enterprise in an executive, senior managerial, or specialized knowledge role, have been employed full-time for at least one year in the past three years by the same company, come for a temporary period, and meet all immigration requirements.
